Saving Private Ryan - Prop US M1 Garand Rifle

A prop M1 Garand rifle used in the 1998 war movie "Saving Private Ryan" starring: Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, Adam Goldberg, Vin Diesel & Giovanni Ribisi.

During pre-production three types of prop M1's were made including foam, fibreglass and this style which is made from wood, the wooden rifles were known as 'sinkers' and were used specifically for the D-Day landing scenes, in the film these particular wooden rifles can be seen sinking to the bottom of the ocean.

The rifle features a complete wooden stock, the receiver section is made from resin, and has several brass sections on the stock, it has a metal trigger and trigger guard, and the barrel end is also made from metal, the extra weight of the metal barrel allowed the rifle to sink barrel end first.

The rifle is in great shape and has to be one of the best examples we have seen, a rare rifle to find nowadays especially in this condition. It weights 2.1kg and measures: 1123mm x 125mm (44.2" x 4.9").
